Sara Mumford
Research Associate
Cellular and Molecular Medicine
Summary
Sara received her B.S. in Neurobiology from the University of California, San Diego in 2023. She joined the lab of Dr. Gene Yeo in 2022 as an intern and now serves as a Staff Research Associate. Her work centers on understanding RNA regulation in neuronal systems, with primary expertise in human stem cell culture and differentiation, including the generation and maintenance of iPSC-derived neuronal models. She has extensive experience in molecular biology techniques such as cloning, bacterial transformation, and has contributed to projects investigating RNA-binding proteins and their roles in neuronal function and disease, including authorship on a recent manuscript examining KIF5A-mediated mRNA transport and synaptic homeostasis.
In addition to her in vitro work, Sara has hands-on experience with in vivo models, including mouse husbandry and experimental procedures such as injections. In her current role, she supports a broad range of experimental workflows spanning stem cell biology, molecular cloning, and assay development, contributing to research efforts aimed at understanding mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative diseases such as ALS. Outside of the lab, she enjoys swimming and follows financial markets, with a particular interest in stock trading.
