Qishan (Lisa) Liang

Graduate Student (Ph.D.)

Chemistry and Biochemistry

Summary

Lisa graduated from Zhejiang University of China, where she was a chemistry major. She is a big fan of multidisciplinary research, and sincerely hopes to contribute to human health with knowledge in physical science. After working on microfluidic-based high-throughput method development and protein structure-function relationship, she interned at Dr. Josephine Hoh’s lab at Yale School of Public Health. At Yale, Lisa became interested in the RNA processing and gene regulation of HTRA1 gene, one of the well-known genes associated with Age-related Macular Degeneration.

Now as a graduate student in Chemistry and Biochemistry at UCSD, she is excited and grateful for the opportunity to be co-mentored by Prof. Gene Yeo and Prof. Kevin Corbett. She is interested in engineering RNA binding proteins (RBPs) based on their structures and binding motifs. She is also developing an in vitro RBP and RNA interaction profiling tool.

Outside of the lab, she loves swimming, reading, cooking, and traditional Chinese lion dancing. She enjoys playing the lion tail but she'd love to advance to be a lion head soon.
