Orel Mizrahi

Post-Doctoral Fellow

Cellular and Molecular Medicine

Summary

Orel received his B.Sc. with honor in Life-Science from the Bar-Ilan university, and upon completion, moved to the Weizmann Institute of Science for M.Sc. and PhD. program in Life-Science in the lab of Prof. Noam Stern-Ginossar at the molecular genetics department. In his thesis research, Orel focused on mapping cis-regulatory element in human and viral RNA molecules in dynamic and stationary conditions, by measuring RNA structures and signatures along viral infection. His research revealed that ribosomes are playing a major role in unwinding RNA structures in coding sequences. Moreover, he found dozens of novel cis-regulatory elements in RNA molecules that directly control RNA stability, translation and more. In 2021 Orel began his post-doctoral research with the Yeo lab, focusing on unraveling the molecular determinants along ALS progression, and exploring the role of RBPs in neurodevelopmental disorders.
