Javier Chavez
Undergraduate Student (Josh Schwartz)
Summary
Javier is a medical graduate who studied medicine across the border in Tijuana, Mexico. He later completed a master’s degree in clinical research at UCSD. It was during his time at UCSD that his interests in diverse aspects of molecular and genomic medicine led him to shift his focus to basic research in order to tackle the fundamental questions surrounding diseases without effective treatments or cures, as well as translational research approaches to bring therapies from the bench to the bedside.
In the Yeo lab, guided by Josh Schwartz, he will study a form of autism called Fragile X syndrome (FXS) as well as possible rescue strategies for this condition.
